Created for nurses who want more

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

➡️ You pride yourself on giving every patient the best care possible, but you feel like you could do more to help them.

➡️ You love inpatient care and feel like you could be doing it even better, but you feel like you don’t know enough about your patient’s complicated medical disease to plan care that really helps them.

➡️ You feel stuck and frustrated - limited by ‘we just don’t do that here’ or ‘that’s the way we’ve always done it’ - and want help injecting some new ideas into your practice.

➡️ You desperately want to get more ‘hands-on’, placing feeding tubes, placing urinary catheters, placing advanced IV access devices, performing medical imaging, doing more lab work, delivering medical nursing clinics, and building real relationships with your clients… but you don’t know where to start.

➡️ You want to work side-by-side with your vet team to give better patient care, not underneath them - but don’t feel confident speaking up and advocating for your patients.

Here’s the thing. Veterinary nurses and technicians CAN (and should!) have a huge role in patient management… when we’re given the opportunity.

We should be planning and delivering tailored nursing care - whilst feeling empowered to make nursing decisions, use our initiative, suggest interventions, confidently discuss cases with our vets, and advocate for our patients’ needs.

And THAT is why I created the Foundation Award.

Inside the course, we learn the need-to-know theory behind different medical disorders - so you can take that underpinning knowledge and turn it into nursing care. No swallowing textbooks, no learning loads of extra things that don’t really matter - just the stuff you need to know to do your job well.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Laura

I could sit here and reel off a whole load of postnominals and reasons why I teach this course - but the most important one is this: I know what it’s like to want more for your patients.

I was the nurse in the ward starting fluids at 2 x maintenance without understanding my patient’s fluid therapy needs. I was the nurse trying to get my patients eating without feeling like I could ask for a feeding tube. I was the nurse doing CPR on an IMHA patient on the floor at 7am having no idea why they crashed (without a vet in the building - yes, that happened) and then wondering what I missed.

I learned more through 10 years working as a specialised medicine nurse - and then wanted to save every other nurse the years of hard work. So, I took the most important bits I had picked up along the way, and poured them into the Foundation Award.

But, if you (or your clinic!) want those ‘official’ reasons, I’m a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Small Animal Medicine, a diploma and degree-holder in Advanced Veterinary Nursing, a RACE-approved course provider, and I’m currently completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education, Leadership and Mentoring.

More importantly, though? I’m a human being and a practising RVN, just like you, who wants to give the best care she can.
