Ready to start doing more with your medical patients, learning new skills, feeling more supported, and giving even better patient care?

Tell me if this sounds familiar…

You became a veterinary nurse because you wanted to give great care.

And now you want to take that even further... continually learning, developing and applying your new skills, discussing your cases with the vets (rather than just being directed by them) and feeling like your time, skills and expertise are acknowledged.

But right now, you feel like you could be doing more...

Perhaps you're feeling like you're not able to treat your patients as effectively as you'd like to.

Maybe you feel overlooked, or like you're not listened to when nursing your medical cases - or that you lack the confidence to advocate for your medical patients.

Or maybe you'd love to do more with your medical patients, but you just don't have enough time to dedicate to each of them.

I know because I’ve been there, too.

I know what it's like to feel stagnant, and unable to progress in your career.

I know how frustrating it is to feel like you have so many patients to care for and no time to give the level of care you'd like.

I know how it feels to not have your opinions listened to - or to feel like you don't know enough about the cases you're seeing to have an opinion!

And I know how it feels to not think you're good enough.

That's why I wanted to create a community where nurses could support and empower each other whilst learning about medical patients.

It's time to be the amazing, confident nurse you know you are.
To plan and give the full care that your medical patients deserve, and to feel confident doing this - even in a busy ward with a never-ending 'to-do' list!

To learn new skills, advocate for your patients, and to show your team, clients and patients just what you're capable of.

Introducing… The medical nursing academy!

The Medical Nursing Academy is a community of veterinary nurses, technicians and students who:

  • Work with their vet team to provide the best care they can for their patients

  • Advocate for their patients and feel confident implementing the right nursing considerations for each patient

  • Feel more confident in their day-to-day nursing skills

  • Develop new clinical skills, and apply these to their medical patients

  • Are part of a team who bounce ideas off of each other to learn more, support each other and recognise the vital role nurses play in medical care.

The academy is for you if:

You feel like you could do more to care for your medical patients, but you don't have the time to read up on different diseases and how they affect your patients

You worry you don't know enough about all of the different diseases you see in practice - and how they affect your patients - to make decisions on their nursing care

You'd love to learn what different blood test results mean, and how to interpret X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans to learn how you can apply these to your nursing care... but you don't get to, because it's 'not a nurse's job'

You'd like to have more input on nursing decisions for your medical patients... from admit to hospitalisation, and beyond

You feel like confidence, impostor syndrome and self-doubt get in the way of you giving the medical care you want to.

"I attended Laura’s ‘Debunking Blood Gases’ workshop to help with revision before my ECC cert exams.
It was a really helpful and interactive session. Laura explained everything really clearly and made it much easier to understand acid-base disturbances.
There was an opportunity to ask questions during the workshop and any that there wasn’t time for were answered by email after the session.
Having notes and access to a recording of the session was really useful for going back over things afterwards.
I would definitely recommend this workshop!"

What do you get as an academy member?

The academy is your one-stop-shop for RACE-approved Medical Nursing CE/CPD, and as a member, you get:

  • Every month we get together and learn about medical nursing from the medicine bible, Small Animal Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses.

I’ll summarise a disease and we’ll study it together - and don’t worry if you’ve not got a copy, as I’ll share all of my notes with you on the call!

  • Every month, we get together for an hour to answer your questions! Got a case you want to chat through, a procedure you want to know more about or a topic you’re writing an assignment on? Bring it to the call and get 1:1 support!

  • Every other month we get together for an in-depth interactive session on a medical nursing topic! These session are 1.5-2 hours long, and accompanied by a workbook, interactive case discussion or questions to work through, to really help cement that knowledge!

  • Between our live interactive workshops, we’ll get together for live webinars. These are shorter, 45-60 minute, informal sessions discussing different medical nursing topics.

  • After every book club call, workshop and webinar, there’ll be a 5-10 question quiz to test your knowledge!

  • We’ll also have special guest workshops on a variety of topics, from impostor syndrome and wellbeing to anaesthesia and beyond!

  • Who doesn’t want a bit of nursing bling?! The least you deserve is a badge to show off your hard work - so you’ll get out official academy member badge when you join… as well as your name on the academy wall of fame!

  • Brand new for 2024… introducing the academy VIPs!

Becoming a VIP member will get you access to an exclusive on-demand case study delivered to you every month.

Think short and sweet, 15-20 minutes of practical nursing tips, tricks and hacks for different diseases.

These case studies will form a library of different diseases you can dip into and grab inspiration from when nursing your own patients!

plus other exclusive bonuses!

Totalling an average of 41 hours of CPD per year…

You also get exclusive access to the Medical Nursing Community, a platform for the members to chat, share ideas, study together, discuss cases and support each other!

“A big thank you for being here for us, for all the amazing work you do for us and for giving us such a nice and safe space to feel welcome to get together.”

“I absolutely love this academy!! I love checking in and I try to attend live calls when I can. The fact that I can pop in and out when I get chance to watch the recordings is fab, and I can ask opinions & advice in the community! It’s so nice to have a group of kind, caring and truly passionate nurses and techs!”

Got a Question? Let’s get it answered!

How often are the calls?

We have 3 calls a month - one live workshop or webinar, one Q&A call and one book club call.

Our academy VIPs also get a pre-recorded on-demand case study sent to them every month, too.

You don’t need to attend them live if you can’t make it, so don’t worry - everything is recorded!

Do I need to complete everything inside?

In short - no! I know how busy we all are juggling clinical life, CPD, and our own lives too.

The calls are turned into an on-demand CPD library that you can dip in and out of whenever you like - focusing on the things that you want to learn about.

How much does it cost?

You can access everything in the academy for £22/month for SVNs or £35/month for RVNs!

Annual plans and practice plans are also available.

If you want to upgrade to the VIP academy option and access the additional case studies, it’s an additional £5/month.

How do I get inside?!

Spots inside the academy are limited, so that I can focus on really supporting everyone inside.

We open doors for limited new member spots 3 times per year (Spring, Summer and Autumn/Winter).

Our doors are opening next on February 12th, 2024! You can get on the waiting list for the next intake here.

"The workshop about blood smear interpretation was super informative and very visual, which made it easy to follow and understand.
The knowledge I have gained has
improved my confidence in clinic and now I actually get excited reading blood smears. Being able to utilize skills like performing platelets counts leads to improved team work and ultimately better patient care.
I will highly recommend Laura's workshop to anyone eager to learn and looking to add to their skill set!"
